Ultrasonic parking sensors and radar are designed to work through paint, glass and thin polymer layers, and paint protection film is within that tolerance when applied as intended.

What actually went wrong in documented cases?

Three cases are worth knowing because each teaches a different lesson:

  • BMW parking sensor failure with condensation. The presence of moisture around the sensor points to trim disturbance or a seal issue during installation rather than the film surface itself. Lesson: test sensors after any trim is removed.
